It‘s taken me a long time to feel ready to share It‘s taken me a long time to feel ready to share this with a wider audience, but the other day I realized that it’s been almost exactly a year since I posted on this account, so I decided that it was finally time.

For those of you who don’t know, it’s been an extremely difficult year for our family. A year ago, everything felt so different. We had just gotten new carpet in our house, a beautiful dusting of snow outside, and we were so happy to be looking forward to the birth of our first child. We watched his progress through check-ups and sonograms and poured our love into preparing the nursery for his arrival.

8 months ago today, our son, Ronan Noble Lines, finally arrived in the world. Due to complications after his birth, we were only able to spend a brief time with him before he passed early in the morning two short days later.

I don’t think we’ll ever be able to fully describe our sadness at never getting the chance to bring him home, show him his room, or put him in his crib. Nevertheless, as part of our grieving process, we decided that we wanted to continue putting the finishing touches on his nursery that wasn’t quite ready when he came into the world.

His nursery is absolutely filled with love, the extent and depth of which can be seen in the many examples given to us from all the people in our lives that love him so much. Our hope was that this video could honor that love and serve to help introduce our beautiful son to the wider world.

We will always cherish every single moment that we got to spend with Ronan, while forever thinking about the lifetime of moments that we’ll miss out on. But while our grief often overwhelms the gratitude we feel for having gotten to meet our son, we’ll always keep him with us. We love you forever, Ro.

Well, I had no idea that this was a thing, but app Well, I had no idea that this was a thing, but apparently National Lighthouse Day is August 7th, and I just missed it by a few days. Nonetheless, I wanted to post these images of the Nobska Lighthouse I traveled to recently, because it’s the first time I’ve been inspired to post in a really long time.
•
While travelling to the East coast late this summer, I got the chance to visit two lighthouses: the Beavertail lighthouse (post coming soon), and this one, the Nobska Lighthouse in Falmouth, MA.
•
The Nobska Lighthouse (originally the Nobsque Lighthouse) was first constructed in 1828, while the version you see today was built in 1876. Throughout its life, it was operated exclusively by civilians until the last lighthouse keeper at this location retired in 1973 and operations were taken over by the US Coast Guard.
•
These images mean more to me than just a pretty place I got to visit recently. For me this trip was a brief return to normalcy that I very much needed and an opportunity to travel to new places and see new things once again. I’m very grateful for the things I have, but I’m also grateful when I get the chance to get out of my bubble and look around once in a while too.
March 20, 2017 Lately we’ve been looking through March 20, 2017
Lately we’ve been looking through old photos and really missing traveling. Last year at this time, we had just gotten back from Spain as our trip overseas had gotten cut very short. We were 5 days into a strict 2 week quarantine where we couldn’t even get groceries for ourselves and had to have friends do our shopping for us.
•
Four years ago today, however, we were walking around the streets of Paris, taking in all the sights for the very first time. That was a short trip too (although intentionally so), but at least for a couple days we got to experience a new city, find places to call our own amongst the winding streets, and see the sights that we had only experienced in pictures and stories before. Can’t wait to get to experience the novelty of travel once again!

Bowen Island was one of the most beautiful places I think I've ever visited. It felt to me like a perfect mix of being isolated and connected at the same time. The island itself is big enough to merit having a school and all the trappings of modern life, but at the same time, a few minutes stroll into the woods can make you feel like you're completely disconnected from the outside world. The feeling of serenity was what pervaded my time there last summer, so I tried to capture that feeling with this triptych. Hope you enjoy!

51 years to the day from the landing of the Apollo 11 mission on the lunar surface, I was lucky enough to catch this awe inspiring glimpse of an impressive celestial visitor, Comet NEOWISE! (see my previous post on why it’s called that)
•
The comet itself is only 3 miles wide, however, the trail of dust that you can clearly see in this image, stretches about 10 MILLION miles behind the nucleus!
•
In addition to the trail of dust, if you look closely you can also faintly see the comet’s ion tail splitting off to the left of the main one. While the dust tail is made up of physical particles left behind and illuminated by the sun’s visible light, the ion tail is made up of gasses and ions from the comet that are illuminated by solar winds or UV light, much like the auroras.
•
When Comet NEOWISE ceases to become even faintly visible in a few days’ time, it won’t return to grace our skies for another ~6800 years! I’m told by my friend @davevanphotography (you should check out his photos of the comet too!) that in that time it will circle out just past Pluto before getting pulled back toward the inner solar system by the sun’s gravity once more.
•
I’m so glad that I got the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see this comet and got to capture these images of such a spectacular sight; what a fun experience!
•
Also, special thanks to @jasonpbphoto for the tips on editing photos of the comet and to @uriseguram, @washingtonchua, and @colerise for the inspiration for this overlay design! I’ve been trying to up my game lately, and the work that every one of these creators produce, both in terms of design, photography, and sheer persistence of effort is an inspiration to say the least and a huge help in getting outside the norm for me, much appreciated, all of you!
•
Let me know if you can spot the small nod to the Apollo 17 mission that I included in the overlay as I was inspired by @colerise’s article on @petapixel about finding a moon camera on earth!
The night sky, and especially celestial objects ha The night sky, and especially celestial objects have always held a special interest for me. That’s why I was so excited that I got to go out and view Comet NEOWISE as it made its closest approach to Earth yesterday, within 64.3 million miles of our planet.
•
This 3 mile wide icy comet was discovered by the NEOWISE telescope (Near-Earth Object Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer) a few months ago on Mar 27, 2020, hence the name. It’s official name is actually Comet C/2020 F3, but NEOWISE was easier to remember. On July 3 it survived it’s closest approach to the Sun and came into view from Earth soon thereafter.
•
I’ve been out to see the comet three times now, but I think that’s going to be it for me at this point. As the comet now moves steadily away from the Earth (and therefore away from the Sun that’s lighting its tail) it will start to get more and more dim to the point where it will no longer be visible with the naked eye. Although it’s pretty faint now, if you’d like to try to catch a glimpse of this celestial visitor, you can still see it through binoculars in the NW sky just under the Big Dipper about an hour after sunset. For me though, my focus has now shifted to looking forward to the peak of the Perseid meteor shower coming up in about 3 weeks! Happy star hunting!

While the final video is less than 25 sec long, it’s literally taken me more than six years to get this shot! Granted, I’ve only been trying every once in a while over that period, but still, it’s been quite the process. .
They call this kind of day-to-night timelapse, the Holy Grail timelapse because of how difficult it is to keep the exposure smooth across such drastically different lighting conditions. I’ve worked for a while to make this happen, and I’m still learning, still have lots of room to improve, but I’m happy with what I was able to capture this time around! Special thanks to @herringtoncolin for helping me with the last piece of the puzzle!
I’ve been trying to make the most of this time a I’ve been trying to make the most of this time at home by getting into real baking for the first time ever. I got a sourdough starter from a friend and have started baking naturally leavened sourdough bread! It’s kind of hard to believe that something like this is achievable with nothing more than flour, water, salt, a little heat, and a lot of love. .

It’s been quite the process working up to producing a loaf like this one, but I’m so happy I was able to pull it off! There have been some choice words thrown out while working with the dough, but in the end I learned a lot and have found a new hobby to be passionate about. Now I want to start expanding into pizza dough, etc! .
Thanks to Anna of @breadjourney for the scoring design inspo, couldn’t have done it without you!

Sagrada Familia 🇪🇸 3|12|2020 . Seeing the i Sagrada Familia 🇪🇸 3|12|2020
.

Seeing the interior of this architectural masterpiece has long been a dream of mine. I had often seen photos inside the basilica, but had also heard that seeing it in photos doesn't hold a candle to seeing it in person. All that I had read was exactly right. This place is incredible! .

Like much of Gaudí's work, he leans heavily on influences from the natural world for this design. The giant columns inside are meant to reflect the feeling of being in a densely wooded forest. And even though I had seen pictures and thought I knew what to expect, it feels even more alive in person. .

It was especially interesting to learn that the color differences in the stone of the different columns comes from the material used to create them, hand picked by Gaudí for their structural attributes and ability to hold up the 18 massive towers that comprise the structure (only 8 of which have yet to be completed in its 138 years of construction). .
The whole experience was quite surreal, and I can't wait to go back to see the project completed, and his dream finally realized, in another 6 years!

Two weeks ago today we left the city of Barcelona, Two weeks ago today we left the city of Barcelona, a city we had just arrived in three days earlier. We had planned to be abroad for a full two weeks, but that trip was suddenly cut short by the world's currently evolving situation with the novel coronavirus. But, we were extremely happy with the few good days we had there!
.
One of the few things we actually got to do while in Barcelona was to visit the iconic, unfinished Gaudi masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia. Lit up by the warm evening light on our first night in Spain, our first view of the stunning cathedral did not disappoint. We had a lovely time strolling around the grounds watching the changing light transform the intricate exterior of the church. It wasn't until the next day that we would get to finally see the interior of this architectural monument.

One week ago today, the day after Trump issued his ill-conceived European travel ban from the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, we were walking around the Gothic Quarter (el Barrio Gótico) in Barcelona, Spain, still reeling from the news and the emergency travel plans we had to make as a result, and we came across this poster in the streets by @tvboy. I was instantly amazed at how fast it had gone up and how elegantly and yet starkly it summed up the situation we were all in. .
Tonight we’re gonna be watching the movie Arrival for its much needed message of unity in a divided world. Remember though that #dividedwestandtogether Hope everyone‘s staying safe and healthy inside. Happy quarantine!
After cutting our latest trip to Europe a bit shor After cutting our latest trip to Europe a bit short, I'm coming back with this post from our last trip in 2017. And because it's St. Patrick's Day, 🍀 this one's from the land of the Irish themselves. .
This is an iconic view of the magnificent Cliffs of Moher. Easily one of our favorite days of the trip. We met the incredible Pat Sweeney of @doolincliffwalk down at sea level in front of Gus O'Connor's Pub in the little town of Doolin, and from there started the trek up the famous cliffs. .
It was a gorgeous 5 mile hike up the full height of the imposing cliffs, through private farmland that's been family owned for generations, one of them being the Sweeney family. We stayed at Mary and Pat Sweeney's BnB the #doonagorefarmhouse, the night before and were actually welcomed into their home by their son who was incredibly kind and welcoming. .
It was an amazing trip and an incredible experience. We'll never forget the warmth we felt from the Irish people and it makes me thrilled to celebrate an Irish holiday. Hope the luck of the Irish brings a good dose of happiness and health to everyone. Happy St. Patrick's Day!
I've been trying to do posts from 'a year ago toda I've been trying to do posts from 'a year ago today' from our trip to SE asia last February and March, but last year, this day didn't exist. Even though it's not the end of the year, I still consider this to be the 366th day of the year, so instead, I decided to post a shot from a year ago yesterday and wish you a happy Leap Day! •
This shot was taken in Halong Bay, Vietnam right after touring Hang Sung Sot, or Surprise Cave. The cave was actually a series of three, increasingly bigger caves, which was why it was called that. This view is looking back out onto bay toward our skiff from a lookout after the final cave. •
Even though our visit to Vietnam was a very short part of our whole trip, it was definitely one of our highlights. It was especially magical to get to tour this incredible World Heritage Site, and see such stunning sights along the way!
